Hollywood Senior Center and Elders in Action Co-host Valentine’s Big Band Concert
Enjoy a live band, food, drinks, dancing and friends

Hollywood Senior Center (HSC) and Elders in Action are co-hosting a Valentine’s Big Band Concert on Friday, February 16th from 5:30pm – 7:30pm at the HSC located on 1820 NW 40th Ave. Portland, OR. Admission is free, but a $5 donation and/or can of food is appreciated.

Hollywood Senior Center has been serving Portland since 1973. Their mission is to promote health, independence, and well-being for adults 55 and older. Elders in Action brings 45 years of experience in aging and disability advocacy to the Portland community.

The two organizations have partnered together to throw a Valentine’s Big Band Concert. We will have a special appearance from the Providence Big Band and beer, wine, and appetizers for you to enjoy. Plus, we’ll offer a swing dance lesson/demonstration at 5:30 pm sharp. The band will start at 6:00 pm. This event is open to the public; all ages and dance moves welcomed. So grab your friends, family, and coworkers, and meet us at the Hollywood Senior Center.

January 30: Brown Bag Medication Review

Knowledge is power! OSU/OHSU student pharmacists will review your medications and teach you more about what you are taking at BROWN BAG MEDICATION REVIEW on Tuesday, January 30, from 1 to 4 pm. Simply bring your medications (prescription, over-the-counter, herbal medications, and vitamins and supplements) in “brown bag.” Please call the Hollywood Senior Center at 503-228-8303 to make an appointment with the student pharmacists.

January 26: Pizza Lunch & “Battle of the Sexes”

Please join us Friday, January 26, at 11:30 am for a delicious pizza lunch! Tickets go on sale at 9:30 am. For a suggested donation of just $2, you’ll get a slice of pizza, salad, beverage, and dessert. Then, we’ll show “Battle of the Sexes,” starring Emma Stone and Steve Carell, at 1 pm for a suggested donation of $1. The movie recreates the electrifying true story of the 1973 tennis match between world champion Billie Jean King and ex-champ Bobby Riggs.

January 25: HeartMath Presentation

Feeling stuck, disconnected, or discouraged in the face of overwhelming stress? If so, join Eva Cristina Calderon for a HeartMath Presentation on Thursday, January 25, from 1 to 2 pm. Calderon, a certified HeartMath provider, will discuss ways to reduce stress naturally and build resiliency using the HeartMath method. January 12 Movie: Stronger

Please join us Friday, January 12, at 1 pm for Stronger, the inspiring true life story of Jeff Bauman. Bauman, an ordinary man, captures the hearts of his city and the world after surviving the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing and becomes a symbol of hope. The movie stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Tatiana Maslany, and Miranda Richardson. On Friday, January 19, Stronger will be shown at 1 pm with subtitles.
