August 14: Alzheimer’s Association Class–Effective Communications Strategies

The Alzheimer’s Association is offering a class titled “Effective Communication Strategies” on Tuesday, August 14, from 1 to 2 pm. Communication is more than just talking and listening; it’s also about sending and receiving messages through attitude, tone of voice, facial expressions, and body language. Interested in Drawing in Charcoal and Graphite? Classes Start in August

Starting on Thursday, August 2, Hollywood Senior Center will offer an art class: INTRODUCTION OF DRAWING: CHARCOAL & GRAPHITE. The class will be held every Thursday in August from 1 to 3 pm. Explore the basics of drawing, such as perspective, value, shape, and texture. The class will include exercises, using still life forms with charcoal and graphite. August 7: Food, Glorious Food–Gleaning, Cooking Demo, and Food Safety Training

We’re proclaiming Tuesday, August 7, Food Day at the Hollywood Senior Center!

At 9:30 am, we’ll offer FREE food from New Seasons’ deli and dairy department. (FYI: Due to its popularity, we start handing out tickets at 8:30 am.

At 1 pm, we’ll host a FREE Food Safety 101 Training in partnership with National Council on Aging’s National Institute of Senior Centers and USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service. Participants will learn the basics of food safety and how to prevent foodborne illness in their homes. To register for this class, please call 503-288-8303.

Then at 2 pm, New Seasons will be back at HSC for a FREE cooking demonstration. Learn delicious recipes and enjoy samples. Walk-ins welcome.

July 27: Pizza and a Movie (“I, Tonya”)

Please join us at the Hollywood Senior Center for a pizza lunch at 11:30 am on Friday, July 27. (FYI: Tickets sales start at 9:30 am.)  For a suggested donation of just $2, you get a big slice of pizza, salad, dessert, and a beverage. (For an extra $1, you can get TWO slices!)

At 1 pm, we’ll show “I, Tonya,” based on the life of Oregon resident and competitive ice skater Tonya Harding. Margo Robbie is terrific in the lead role and Allison Janney delivers an Academy Award-winning performance as Harding’s mother. Suggested donation: $1
