January 9: Chronic Pain Self-Management (six week program)

This FREE six-week program, developed by the Stanford Patient Education Research Center/Self-Management Resource Center, is for people with long term pain. Participants will learn how to manage pain and symptoms, handle difficult emotions, problem solve effectively, work with a healthcare team, use medication as directed, and set weekly goals. Hollywood Senior Center Program Manager Renee Curtis and Miracles Club Program Coordinator Marsha Jordan will facilitate the workshop Wednesdays, January 9-February 13, 1:30-4:00. January 4: Mah Jongg Game

There’s a new game in town! The Hollywood Senior Center is starting a FREE weekly Mah Jongg game. The facilitators will bring two sets of Mah Jongg tiles and encourage other players to bring their sets. To play, you need an official 2018 National League Mah Jongg Card, which you can order at nationalmahjonggleague.org. January 3: Seniors in Motion: Chi-Pong (Ping Pong and Tai Chi together)

Have fun, laugh, and get healthy! Table tennis (ping pong and tai chi (chi-pong) harmonize together at the Hollywood Senior Center every Thursday, 3:30-4:30 pm. Competitive table tennis player and comedian Ric Mancuso, owner of Serve with Return, will share his expertise in ping pong and incorporate various wellness modalities, such as core strengthening, stretching techniques, and heart health-and he’ll throw in a few jokes too. January 2: Technology Workshop for Seniors

The Portland Youth Builders will lead a 30-minute presentation followed by 20 minutes of hands-on activities Wednesday, January 2, 1:00-2:00 pm at the Hollywood Senior Center.  The high school students will have laptops on hand and encourage class participants to bring questions.  Topics will include: intro to to Smart Phones, Smartphone Settings and Storage, Apps you can use (Travel, Library, Movies), Senior Scams, Microsoft Office, Windows 10, and Silhouette Paper Cutter-Pop up      Cards. December 18: A Special Birthday Celebration!

Celebrate all December Birthdays on a special date, Tuesday, December 18, 12pm. (new date due to holiday) Sign up at the front desk if you are 60+, then you get a free lunch, a coupon for a free pizza lunch on movie day and enter the drawing to win a birthday cake from HealtNet! We Works Pre-School will be coming to the Hollywood Senior Center to sing songs and celebrate your birthday!

December 18: Senior Housing Options

Jean Johnson, Ph.D. in U.S. History and retired educator, is in her third year as a real estate agent and is specially trained to work with seniors. Jean will discuss planning to maintain control and dignity and physical and social safety. Housing options: aging in place at home, downsizing, condos, apartments, and retirement communities and wait-lists will also be discussed.
