May 6: Riders Club Trip: The Mercado (Latin American Food Carts)

The RideWise Ride Ambassador, who will hand out free transportation tickets and lead the group, will meet participants in the Hollywood Senior Center Lobby on  May 6 at 10:30 and then head to The Mercado, a colorful, open venue offering Latin American grub from multiple vendors, a butcher, and a food market. Saturday, May 4: Our Bold Voices: Rewired, Not Retired

The Hollywood Senior Center will feature local older adults who have “retired” from traditional careers, only to find new meaning doing something very different. Through personal stories, hear more about their unique paths of self’-discovery, including ways they are reengaging with others in new and creative ways. This is an ideal event for people 50+ who are searching for new opportunities. Come hear their stories, ask questions, network and leave inspired with new possibilities. Aging advocate and master storyteller Paul Iarrobino of Our Bold Voices will host the event. May 2: New Participant Orientation

Are you new to Portland? Or new to Hollywood Senior Center? Join us, Thursday, May 2, 10:00-11:00am for an informal monthly session (first Thursday of every month) to learn what the center offers, how you can volunteer, and meet staff members and volunteers who can answer questions and help you navigate one of Portland’s best resources for older adults. May 1: Technology Workshop for Seniors

The Portland Youth Builders will lead a 30-minute presentation followed by 20 minutes of hands-on activities. The high school students will have laptops on hand and encourage class participants to bring questions.Topics will include: Intro to Smart Phones, Smartphone settings and Storage, Apps You Can Use (Travel, Library, Movies), Senior Scams, Microsoft Office, Windows 10, and Silhouette Paper Cutter-Pop Up Cards. April 30: Gordon Herman Presents “Frank Sinatra: Old Blue Eyes”

Sinatra was the first great post-WWII singing star. He rose to fame with the Tommy Dorsey band, had a successful solo career and acted in  movies & TV. But his personal life was a fodder for gossip. Music Historian Gordon Neal Herman  will trace the ups and downs of Old Blue Eyes. Enjoy this wonderful presentation at the Hollywood Senior Center, Tuesday, April 30 1:00-2:00pm. April 26: Electronic Circuits Class-Sewing & More

Learn how to make clothes that light up!  Richard Ames will teach you how to build basic electronic circuits to blink lights and then sew them on felt with conductive thread. April 23: Homemade Herbal Salve Demo

Learn how to make your own hand salve at the Hollywood Senior Center, Tuesday,  April 23, 2:00-3:00pm. Join herbalist & acupuncturist Amber Howard to learn a fun & easy way to make your own organic herbal balm that you can take home with you. Jean Johnson, Ph.D. in U.S. History and retired educator, is in her third year as a real estate agent and is specially trained to work with seniors. Jean will discuss planning to maintain control and dignity; physical and social safety; downsizing; condos, apartments, aging-in-place at home; and retirement communities and wait lists.
