Are you new to Portland? Or new to Hollywood Senior Center? Join us for an informal monthly session to learn what the center offers, how you can volunteer, and meet staff members and volunteers who can answer questions and help you navigate one of Portland’s best resources for older adults.

A cool night of music, dancing and animated shorts from NPR’s StoryCorps OutLoud Initiative, featuring stories collected from the LGBT elder community. Live music by HUG (Hollywood Ukulele Group) and pianist Jean Pierre Garau. Join us for the night of food, fun, and education. Sponsored by StoryCorps, Q Center, Sage, and HUG. August 20: Riders Club Trip: “Paris 1900” (Art and Conversation) at Portland Art Museum

Tuesday, August 20, 8:30 am (meet in HSC lobby); event starts at 9:15 am

Travel back to Paris at the dawn of the 20th century and experience the splendor of the French capital during the Belle Epoque period. Meet the RideWise Ride Ambassador, who will distribute free transportation passes, in the HSC lobby and head to the FREE talk and exhibit.

August 19: Ten Warning Signs of Alzheimer’s and Dementia

Monday, August 19, 9:30-10:30 am

Alzheimer’s and other dementias cause memory, thinking, and behavior changes that interfere with daily living. Learn about common warning signs of Alzheimer’s and what symptoms to look for in yourself and others, as well as tips to approach someone who is experiencing changes in their memory, the benefit of early detection and diagnosis, and more. Led by the Alzheimer’s Association.
