The Beaumont Middle School Jazz Ambassadors play a variety of swing-band music, including favorites like “St. Louis Blues,” “Katie” by Sammy Nestico, “American Patrol,” “Big Noise from the North Pole,” “Little Brown Jug,” and more. Cynthia Plank, Portland public School band teacher, leads this group of talented middle school students.

Join music historian Gordon Neal Herman for parts two and three of this three-part series (Oct. 16, Nov. 20, & Dec. 18), which traces how the combining of marching bands and ragtime gave rise to Dixieland jazz, and how the big bands grew out of the dance band movement’s discovery of jazz. Come to one or both presentations.
