September 24: Alzheimer’s Caregivers Support Group

Are you caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease or another form of dementia? If so, please join the ALZHEIMER’S CAREGIVERS SUPPORT GROUP on SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 24, from 2:00 to 3:30 pm at the Hollywood Senior Center. September 21: “Talking Books” Library Presentation for People with Visual Impairments

Elke Burion, public services librarian of the State of Oregon, will give a “TALKING BOOKS” LIBRARY PRESENTATION on Thursday, September 21, from 9:30 to 10:30 am at the Hollywood Senior Center. September 18: Medicare Fraud Discussion

Join the Multnomah County Senior Medicare Patrol on Monday, September 18, at 1 pm for a workshop titled MEDICARE FRAUD DOESN’T HAPPEN IN OREGON–OR DOES IT? This informative session on how to avoid the latest telephone scams, keep your information safe, report any problems or mistakes, and learn how to understand your EXPLANATION OF BENEFITS. September 14: Apple Cider Vinegar Workshop

Dr. Julie Guenette from the National University of Natural Medicine will teach you the health benefits of using apple cider vinegar as part of your food preparation in a workshop titled APPLE CIDER VINEGAR: IT’S NOT JUST FOR PICKLES on Thursday, September 14, from 9:30 to 10:30 am. Apple cider vinegar promotes healthy cholesterol, blood sugar levels, and alleviates heartburn. Participants will learn simple ways to incorporate this super ingredient into your daily life. 9/12-10/17: Powerful Tools for Caregivers Program

Please join Loriann McNeill, Multnomah County Family Caregiver Support Program Coordinator, for a FREE 6-week program titled POWERFUL TOOLS FOR CAREGIVERS. The program runs from 1 to 2:30 pm on Tuesdays, September 12-October 17, at the Hollywood Senior Center.

Caring for someone with a chronic illness, such as dementia, cancer, heart disease, or stroke can be physically, emotionally, and financially exhausting. Caregivers will learn techniques to reduce stress, improve communication, and locate helpful resources.

HSC is Cooling Center September 5 & 6

 

The Hollywood Senior Center will remain open until 8 pm on Tuesday, September 5, and Wednesday, September 6, as an OFFICIAL MULTNOMAH COUNTY COOLING CENTER.Refreshments will be served. We’ll show the movie, “Megan Leavey,” at 5:30 pm. Getting out of the heat for even a few hours can make a big difference for your health and wellness, especially as we age.
