Please join us at the Hollywood Senior Center for pizza lunch and a movie Friday, December 8. Lunch is served at 11:30 am, with ticket sales starting at 9:30 am. At 1 pm, we’ll show THE GLASS CASTLE, starring Brie Larson, Woody Harrelson, and Naomi Watts. The Hollywood Senior Center be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday and Friday, November 23-24. We will remain closed through Monday, November 27, so that we can complete a remodeling project. Our doors ope again at 8:30 am on Tuesday, November 28. Be sure to check out the new look in our kitchen after the holiday. Please help us spread the word.
Please note: The Neighborhood Gleaners will host their Thanksgiving Dinner at the Center on Thursday, November 23, from 3:30-6:30 pm. Doors will be open for this.
The first is in partnership with Wy’East Church on SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 19 from noon to 2 pm. A full Thanksgiving dinner will be served. There will also be live music for all to enjoy… and, of course, fellowship. The Church invites you to come early attend their service starting at 10:30 am.
On Thanksgiving Day (THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 23), the Neighborhood Gleaners will serve a home-cooked dinner with all the fixings from 3:30 to 6:30 pm. Vegetarian and vegan options are available. They are a writers’ circle open to writers in all genres, including poetry, memoir, flash fiction, short stories, novellas and prose in general.
Their 90-minute sessions start with ten minutes of spontaneous writing which we then share with one another and receive feedback on if so desired. Then whoever has a piece of writing he or she worked on during the week can share it with the group, again with helpful feedback. The atmosphere is supportive and encouraging, and is oriented toward helping novice and more advanced writers improve their craft, while having a good time. Come and join the fun!

The Hollywood Senior Center is pleased to host the Portland Opera To Go performing MOZART’s THE MAGIC Flute on Saturday, November 4, from 2-3:30 pm. A Q&A will follow a 50-minute performance. Doors will open at 1:15 pm with a $5 suggested donation. Full of action, humor, true love, and hard-won triumphs, The Magic Flute is a tale of young people grappling with growing up and taking responsibility for their convictions–all wrapped up in Mozart’s gorgeous music.
