Hollywood Senior Center couldn’t operate without the help of wonderful volunteers who donate their time and talent to serve our community. Whatever your age, interests, or skills, you can find a rewarding volunteer or an internship opportunity with us.

Please note that the majority of our volunteer opportunities are remote at this time.

Volunteer Opportunities

Provide one-on-one support over the phone to seniors looking to use technology to stay connected and participate in online programming and classes at Hollywood Senior Center. 

DUTIES & ACTIVITIES: 

    • Provide technical support to individuals over the phone to help them with tech issues
    • Assist individuals in navigating the HSC online calendar and registering for classes
    • Provide tutorial and assistance for successful use of Zoom
    • Answer or return calls directly to or from participants
    • Troubleshoot issues with participants and walk them through solutions

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS: 

    • Excitement for supporting the mission and work of Hollywood Senior Center
    • Tech Savvy and highly skilled at using Zoom
    • Make connections with local seniors
    • Gain experience in technical support
    • Excellent customer service skills and ability to clearly communicate information over the phone
    • Must be at least 16 years of age

Location:  Currently Remote

Commitment: weekly or episodic

Support life-long learning and reduce social isolation. Volunteers to lead a variety of programs and classes that address the social, physical, intellectual, and emotional needs of the senior community. Programming is currently offered via Zoom through our HSC at Home Virtual Programming. Ability to use Zoom required. Currently Remote.

Commitment: Approximately 4 hours per week on a flexible schedule

The Social Media Volunteer helps create content and dynamic posts for Hollywood Senior Center’s Facebook, Instagram, and other platforms.

DUTIES & ACTIVITIES:

    • With coordination from the Center and Activity Manager and Volunteer Program Manager create content and posting for HSC social media accounts.
    • Follow and update a weekly posting plan to advertise HSC programming and happenings.
    • Cultivate ideas in order to increase Hollywood Senior Center’s social media presence.
    • Engage with Hollywood Senior Center’s online community
    • Attend weekly meetings (in person or via Zoom) with staff and as needed
    • Evaluate and adapt HSC’s social media strategy as needed

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

    • Excitement for supporting the mission and work of Hollywood Senior Center
    • Experience with multiple social media platforms including Facebook and Instagram
    • Excellent written communication skills
    • Technical ability to create and edit images for posts
    • Familiarity with Portland area and local organizations and businesses
    • Knowledge of best practices in social media
    • Photography and/or videography skills are a plus
    • Time management skills and ability to meet deadlines

Commitment: 1-4 hours a week or month on a regular schedule and/or as needed/on-call

Help the Community for Positive Aging receive and distribute food, supplies, donations, and more using your personal vehicle or the Community for Positive Aging van. This is a great opportunity to volunteer with a partner or friend!

DUTIES & ACTIVITIES: 

  • Transport food deliveries, program supplies, medical equipment, or other items as needed to and from buildings or individual residences in Portland.
  • Regular weekly, biweekly, or monthly shifts are available to support our Gleaning or Food Pantry programs in transporting and delivering food to homes or to buildings served by enhanced resident services.
  • Volunteers are also needed to be on-call and able to respond quickly to urgent needs to get essential supplies to clients and residents in a timely manner.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS: 

  • Oregon Driver’s License and safe driving record
  • Pass a criminal conviction background check
  • High degree of reliability
  • Able to lift and carry items
  • Commitment to CFPA’s mission and values, including promoting diversity, equality, and inclusion
  • Use of personal, insured vehicle (preferred)
  • Smartphone with map navigation app (preferred)
  • Up-to-date on Covid-19 vaccination

 

Commitment: 1-4 hours per week on a flexible schedule – must have weekday availability (the majority of activities are Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm)

Take photos and videos at Community for Positive Aging activities, programming,

and special events. Maintain and organize photo and video files and create videos for special projects and more.

DUTIES & ACTIVITIES: 

  • Take photos and videos as requested 
  • Obtain photo releases, names, or other information from individuals in photos as needed
  • Organize and maintain photo and video files for others to easily access and use
  • Assist staff with creating photo slideshows or video montages for internal needs or social media
  • Assist with filming and/or live streaming classes and activities

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS: 

  • Photography or videography experience 
  • Personal camera and video equipment preferred 
  • Computer skills including ability to upload and edit photographs
  • Experience using Google drive preferred
  • High degree of reliability
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Commitment to CFPA’s mission and values, including promoting diversity, equality, and inclusion

Help ensure a great experience for participants of our online programming by providing support to Zoom class instructors and participants during virtual classes and activities. 

DUTIES & ACTIVITIES: 

    • Open Zoom room for virtual presenters and act as Zoom host during the class/activity
    • Assist presenter with technical support as needed
    • Monitor Zoom waiting room and allow participants to join
    • Monitor chat during classes and respond as needed
    • Monitor and address any issues with participants’ audio or video sharing
    • Track and report class attendance numbers

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS: 

    • Excitement for supporting the mission and work of Hollywood Senior Center
    • Tech Savvy and highly skilled at using Zoom as a host
    • Excellent customer service skills and ability to clearly communicate information
    • Must be at least 16 years of age 

TIME COMMITMENT:  Minimum 1.5 hours per week on a regular schedule. Must have availability between 9am and 5pm on at least one weekday

Board of Directors Opportunities

Commitment: 2-3 hours a month for a two-year term

The Hollywood Senior Center is seeking new members to join the Board of Directors. It is seeking members who can bring financial acumen, organizational skills, creative thinking, and an understanding of the Center’s role in the community. In addition, professional non-profit and financial management experience is a plus.
