We are working to reduce barriers and improve access to health foods through a number of programs and partnerships.

Food Security

Over 5 million older Americans living below the poverty line are faced with choices each month between dinner and prescriptions, or between groceries and paying for heat/utilities. An estimated 1 million Oregonians are experiencing food insecurity."

Communities of color, low-income seniors (especially those living alone or in low-income housing), and those with disabilities are disproportionately impacted by food insecurity.

Food-insecure older adults are more likely to have poor/fair health, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease, and obesity. They also have higher health care costs.

The Meals on Wheels People Lunch Program, served twice weekly, our Neighborhood Gleaners Program, and our monthly Asian Food Pantry support healthy nutrition and nourishment for all over the age of 60.

Our Food Programs

Asian Food Pantry

The Asian Food Pantry takes place every third Thursday between 10:30am and 2:30pm, right at The Center. While offerings may vary from month-to-month, you can always expect hearty staples and fresh produce.

Lobby Food Pantry

At our monthly lobby food pantry we deliver culturally specific food boxes, food donations, and farmer’s market produce (through our gleaning program). Our staff also collect food, bring and distribute it to residents in the low-income housing buildings we work in.

Meals on Wheels Weekly Lunch Program

The Community for Positive Aging partners with the Meals on Wheels People to provide hot nutritious meals coupled with opportunity for other activities and entertainment onsite.

Neighborhood Gleaners

Neighborhood Gleaners is a volunteer-run program of the Community for Positive Aging. We collect food that would otherwise go to waste from the Hollywood Farmers Market and redistribute it to low-income seniors in the community.
